Got the tee-shirt...and I'd do it again, too!

The 46th Annual Paris Air Show

A short video I produced on the airshow for my own amusement with footage I shot using my Handicam and some musical accompaniment, added later. Excuse the quality degradation: It's better on DVD. Scroll down for clips of individual flying aircraft.

Paris Air Show 2005:

Airbus A-380.  It's a magnificent aircraft. An engineering triumph. Stunning overhead. The crowd applauded. I giggled. Everyone I asked said they were afraid to fly in it.

Dassault Rafale.  Western Europe's premier fighter. Sophisticated and expensive, France can't secure an export order for it. The multirole Rafale is carrier-capable and will carry nuclear missiles as part of France's deterrent force. She's a beauty.

Boeing F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet.  This large carrier-based fighter-bomber is essentially a new aircraft as compared with earlier versions of the Hornet. In US Navy service, the Super Hornet has now replaced the F-14 Tomcat, which has been withdrawn. The US didn't participate in the flying demonstrations at Paris 2003 to protest French policy with regard to the Iraq War. It was nice to see our guys up in the air again in 2005.

The Clips

Sukhoi Su-27.  The most dangerous aircraft Western pilots are likely to face. Exported to China and India. This marks the first appearence of Russian advanced fighters at a Western air show since Paris 2001, when the Swiss filed a suit to impound Russia's MiG-29 and Su-27 over an unpaid debt. The Russians had to make a hasty exit from Le Bourget. That was funny...

Dassault Mirage 2000.  A workhorse of many air forces around the world, the latest versions are first-rate combat aircraft. The French Air Force flew Mirage 2000s in support of US Special Forces in Afghanistan.

Eurofighter Typhoon.  Although by many accounts a highly advanced aircraft, the program suffered from its "build-by-committee" development. Germany, Britain, Italy, and Spain are all Eurofighter partners and will operate the fighter-bomber. Austria has also placed an order and Saudi Arabia has expressed interest.
